Jean-Charles Poinsignon, a recent alumnus, has a dream job for his very first position: Human Resources Assistant at Le Meurice. He welcomes us into this prestigious Parisian palace and enthusiastically talks to us about his new job...

***

Even before you graduated with your MBA with the best grades in France, you were hired for your first job at the Le Meurice Hotel: tell us more.

After my finals and oral defense of my MBA dissertation, I began looking for a job. When I stumbled upon this great offer for a Human Resources Assistant, I knew it was for me! Upholding the values of the Dorchester Collection, which Le Meurice is a part of, and its vision of Human Resources, I immediately applied.I’ve got memories of the enriching discussion with Mrs. Franka Holtmann, the hotel’s General Manager, during my last recruitment interview. I was delighted to have been chosen, and just a few days later, I began working, the day before my MBA results.

What does your job consist of on a daily basis?

Flexibility is the key word for this position, which targets recruitment, administration of staff members and internal communication. You have to be at ease with legal, financial and social procedures every day. As I’m in charge of restaurant services, I’m the key contact for this department, which has many different venues, in particular the Restaurant Le Meurice**.

Here I have the following responsibilities:

- Recruitment of interns in this department, at all levels:

  • Assessment of needs
  • Monitoring the budget
  • Sourcing, managing job applications
  • Recruitment interviews

- Managing personnel in this department:

  • Monitoring files for newly hired employees
  • Drawing up employment contracts and supplemental agreements
  • Management of trial periods, medical appointments
  • Promotions, work medals
  • Recruitment requests, vacations
  • Miscellaneous files, etc.

- Communication is also one of my daily tasks:

  • For external communication, I’m in charge of relationships with schools, with the Human Resources Manager. We regularly present the Dorchester Collection and Le Meurice in hotel management schools and business schools.
  • For internal communication, I work with the entire hotel, especially for welcoming new personnel, giving advice and information to staff members. I take part in transversal projects the Dorchester Collection has, as well as organizing events linked to Human Resources.

I also chair a training session for new employees and interns, targeting their life at the Meurice and the hotel’s Human resources policy.

My daily challenge is to be available to listen to our employees, have a good relationship with them and support them throughout their entire career.
